As an integral member of the Finance team and reporting to the Finance Manager, the Financial Accountant supports specific financial accounting functions for the organization, in the area of Payables and Compliance. Financial Accountants have responsibility for their area of focus to prepare payments to Health Service Providers, journal entries, account reconciliations and ad hoc analysis. The Accountant responds to inquiries of internal or external stakeholders and ensures that support is complete and accurate.
Here is what you will be doing:
Support the disbursement of $4 billion in annual payments by reviewing, validating, analyzing, and processing executed agreements.
Manage Supplier Contracts in Workday per Transfer Payment Agreement terms.
Respond promptly and clearly to payment-related inquiries from stakeholders.
Collaborate with Finance and Ontario Health colleagues on Transfer Payments and other responsibilities.
Prepare journal entries in compliance with Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards and organizational policies.
Reconcile accounts, investigate irregularities, and recommend solutions.
Prepare analysis and communicate work performed for audit requests.
Complete regulatory and ad hoc reporting requirements.
Identify and implement improvements to tools, procedures, and internal controls.
Deliver exceptional customer service to stakeholders.
Perform assigned duties within the functional area.
Apply professional skepticism to fraud risks, adhere to internal controls, and report suspected fraud or control gaps.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree program in related field i.e., Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
3 years' experience in accounting, reporting, and analysis
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or currently working towards qualification
Knowledge of accounting practices, procedures and Public Sector Accounting Standards
Competent in Microsoft Office environment, specifically Microsoft Excel
Experience with ERP, experience in Workday Financials is considered an asset
Knowledge and Skills
Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and accuracy skills
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and time-management abilities
Ethical and confidential in handling sensitive information
Proactive self-starter with a strong sense of accountability
Capable of completing projects independently with minimal supervision
Exercises good judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills
Committed to exceptional client service
