The Role

Reporting to the Regional Director of Operations, the Operations Director (OD) is the primary contact for clinics within a designated territory. The OD ensures smooth and efficient operations, collaborates with Practice Managers and Medical Directors, and ensures clinics comply with corporate practices, meet financial and operational targets, and deliver high-quality veterinary care and client service. The OD also ensures adherence to VetStrategy’s Guiding Beliefs.

Responsibilities

Clinic Business Plan

• Participate in annual budget planning with the VP of Operations, setting realistic yet ambitious targets for revenue, labor, COGS, and expenses.
• Collaborate with Practice Managers to develop clinic-specific Business Plans during reviews.
• Ensure Practice Managers understand, accept, and are committed to their goals.
• Conduct monthly P&L reviews for each location to monitor financial performance.
• Identify and address negative variances and development needs.
• Implement action plans for improvement.

Clinic Relations and Support

• Maintain a strong regional presence through regular communication and bi-weekly visits.
• Assist with new clinic transitions and performance management.
• Support Practice Managers in implementing programs, initiatives, and strategies for growth and improvement.
• Review staffing, revenue strategies, and pricing regularly.

Coach / Mentor / Train

• Mentor Practice Managers, manage performance, and support staffing and recruitment.
• Assist with staff development, succession planning, and team training.
• Coordinate or deliver training workshops.

Client Experience & Community Relations

• Enhance client service through training, feedback, and social media engagement.
• Build community relationships, evaluate marketing opportunities, and support promotional activities.

Background Experience And Skills

• 8-10 years of progressive management experience in operations.
• Post-secondary education or equivalent.
• Strong financial acumen and track record of achieving targets.
• Excellent client relationship, communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Passion for animals and the veterinary industry.
