Job summary

Red River Mutual is seeking an experienced Field Adjuster to investigate, evaluate, and negotiate complex P&C losses across commercial, agriculture, and residential lines. You will communicate with policyholders and brokers, travel to loss sites, and collaborate with internal and external experts to reach fair resolutions.

The role requires strong analytical, negotiation, and leadership abilities, as well as a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma; post-secondary education preferred.
  • CIP designation preferred.
  • 10 years field adjusting experience.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Able to travel to loss sites within the territory.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

REPORTS TO: Claims Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: N/A

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Working within predetermined authority levels and under the direction of the Claims Manager, this position investigates, evaluates, and negotiates moderate to complex commercial, agriculture and residential property and casualty insurance losses reported by Red River Mutual Policyholders. This position is responsible for communicating with policyholders, licensed insurance brokers and other various stakeholders to achieve an efficient and fair resolution to all assigned claim files.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

  • By traveling to various loss sites in a predefined territory, work with Policyholders to investigate the circumstances of reported losses using various investigation techniques
  • Review complex policy wordings to evaluate the availability of insurance coverage for reported losses
  • Interpret legal contracts (commercial leases, condominium declarations, construction agreements), miscellaneous statutes, and relevant case law and accurately apply to the applicable claim scenario.
  • Effectively communicate the results of the coverage review verbally and in writing to the policyholder and independent insurance broker
  • Engage and coordinate various internal and external experts to assist in the investigation, evaluation, or indemnification of the loss
  • Responsible for ensuring electronic claim file is documented and up-to-date.
  • Manage loss and expense reserves accurately and ensure timely claim payments.
  • Manage the policyholder and repairers/retailers to bring the claim to a quick and satisfactory resolution for all involved.
  • Negotiate resolution of insured losses based on the results of the investigation
  • Where required, travel to catastrophe loss sites outside adjusting territory to aid in the adjudication of losses.
  • Assist the Claims Manager/Supervisor by informally mentoring the Field Adjusting team members and assist in the delivery of training.
  • Network with business partners to promote Red River Mutual.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

  • High school diploma.
  • Post-secondary education strongly preferred.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years field adjusting experience.
  • Proven teamwork, relationship management and collaboration skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills in stressful situations.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Advanced negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with Claims Connect/Mobile Claims, and Guidewire.
  • Deep understanding of building construction/renovation techniques.
  • Ability to handle fluctuating workloads and demanding timelines.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
