Position Overview:
The Facility Mechanic is responsible for performing general maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of the building. This includes preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as needed.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform work according to established processes and response & rectification guidelines.
- Comply with all environmental, health and safety, and fire protection requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative measures to meet facility uptime objectives, ensuring uninterrupted client operations and asset integrity.
- Observe and report on the condition of facility systems and recommend improvements or repairs.
- Monitor facilities through walkthroughs and system inspections.
- Respond to service requests and perform necessary preventative and corrective actions.
- Record work details in the facility management database (QFM).
- Ensure work meets quality standards and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate with subcontractors for repairs and maintenance.
- Recommend spare parts and supplies for equipment.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of equipment and maintenance activities.
- Assist in implementing preventative maintenance programs.
- Identify, document, and escalate deficiencies, maintaining proper documentation.
- Participate in facility-related projects as needed.
- Ensure all work complies with company policies and legal requirements related to safety and environment.
- Maintain tools and arrange for repairs or replacements.
- Enhance customer satisfaction through professional service delivery.
- Follow BGIS Health & Safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Requirements:
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including on-call, standby, and emergency calls.
- Wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Use hand tools, lift/carry up to 50 lbs., and work on ladders or stools.
- Work extended periods on feet in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain excellent attendance.
- Demonstrate responsibility and ethical conduct.
- Perform additional duties as needed based on trade or knowledge.
- Work independently with results-oriented focus.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in facility maintenance or healthcare settings is preferred.
- Good understanding of painting, general repairs, and building fabric maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with building automation systems (e.g., Metasys) is an asset.
- Ability to use hand tools, lift/carry 50 lbs., and work on ladders/ stools.
- Availability for scheduled evening, weekend, and 12-hour shift work.
- Proficient with computers and handheld devices.
- Positive attitude, professionalism, and teamwork skills.
- Strong client-service orientation and high sense of urgency.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic conditions and work independently.

- Must meet security clearance requirements.
This position is covered by a Collective Agreement between BGIS and CUPE Local 139-1.
