Job description

Facilities & Maintenance Supervisor
About Us

Simaril is a Winnipeg-based non-profit organization that has supported people to build full, meaningful lives since 1987.

Our supports are tailored to each person’s goals, preferences, strengths, and level of support needed. We provide residential and community-based programs, including Residential Living, Supported Independent Living, Home Share, Respite, and Cluster services.

Across our programs, we focus on helping people build greater choice, independence, connection, and belonging in everyday life.

Our work is guided by three values: Respecting, Empowering, and Uniting.

Our Why

We believe a good life is shaped by the freedom to make choices, build relationships, feel connected, and belong.

Our role is to create the conditions that make that possible. We support people to build lives that reflect who they are, what matters to them, and how they want to live.

All of that purpose guides how we work, how we make decisions, and how we grow.

The Role

We are looking for a Facilities & Maintenance Supervisor to manage Simaril’s facilities and maintenance function across our locations.

This role is responsible for ensuring our homes, workplaces, vehicles, and building systems are safe, reliable, compliant, and well maintained.

You will develop strong facilities processes, coordinate maintenance needs, manage vendors and contractors, oversee inspections and regulatory requirements, and support new locations and facility projects.

What You’ll Supervise
  • Supervise facilities and maintenance operations across Simaril locations.
  • Develop and improve maintenance systems, procedures, service standards, and preventative maintenance plans.
  • Coordinate maintenance priorities, repairs, inspections, and facility-related requests.
  • Manage licensing, occupancy permits, and regulatory requirements for new and existing locations.
  • Coordinate applications, renewals, approvals, and communication with municipalities, landlords, inspectors, and other authorities.
  • Schedule and oversee required building inspections and servicing, including HVAC, fire safety, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Maintain compliance records and ensure identified deficiencies and corrective actions are completed on time.
  • Strong working knowledge of health and safety practices and procedures, with the ability to identify risks, address hazards, and ensure safe practices and regulations are followed across facilities, equipment, maintenance activities, and contractor work.
  • Source, coordinate, and manage contractors and service providers.
  • Oversee services such as cleaning, snow removal, landscaping, repairs, HVAC servicing, and other property needs.
  • Manage facility requirements for new homes, renovations, moves, and occupancy readiness.
  • Oversee Simaril’s vehicle fleet, equipment, furniture, appliances, and other physical assets.
  • Review quotes, purchasing needs, and facility-related expenses.
  • Identify facility risks and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records related to facilities, service agreements, warranties, and maintenance history.
What You Need to Be Successful

We are more interested in your experience, judgement, and ability to manage complex facility needs than a specific degree.

You will bring:

  • Strong experience in facilities, maintenance, property management, building operations, or a related area.
  • Experience managing multiple locations, properties, or facility priorities.
  • Experience with licensing, permits, inspections, occupancy requirements, or building compliance.
  • Strong vendor and contractor management skills.
  • Practical knowledge of HVAC, building systems, preventative maintenance, and facility inspections.
  • A strong health and safety mindset, with the ability to identify risks, take corrective action, and ensure safe work practices are followed.
  • Experience developing or improving operational processes.
  • Strong organization, judgement, problem-solving, and follow-through.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel between Simaril locations.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.

Experience in hotels, restaurants, retail, non-profit organizations, residential operations, property management, or other multi-site environments would be an asset.

What Success Looks Like

You create systems that prevent problems instead of constantly reacting to them.

Licenses, permits, inspections, and building requirements are current and completed on time.

Health and safety risks are identified early and addressed before they become bigger issues.

Maintenance priorities are clear and followed through.

Vendors and contractors deliver reliable, quality service.

Leadership has clear information about facility needs, risks, and upcoming priorities.

Most importantly, the people who live and work in Simaril spaces can rely on those spaces being safe, functional, and well maintained.

What We Offer
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Monday to Friday, primarily 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Pension plan
  • Paid time off
  • The opportunity to shape and strengthen Simaril’s facilities and maintenance function

Some after-hours availability may be required for urgent facility matters.

Join Simaril

If you know how to manage facilities, build strong processes, work effectively with vendors and contractors, and keep multiple priorities moving, we would like to hear from you.

Simaril is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants with different backgrounds and experiences.

Respecting. Empowering. Uniting.
