Job summary

Friday Harbour Inc. is seeking an Assistant Maintenance and Facilities Manager to oversee daily maintenance operations at the Lake Simcoe resort, ensuring safety and efficiency.

You will lead a team, manage preventative maintenance, and coordinate with contractors to support guest-facing and behind-the-scenes functions. The role requires post-secondary facilities-related education and at least five years in maintenance leadership, with knowledge of building systems, budgets and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in facilities, building systems, engineering technology, industrial maintenance or a related discipline is preferred, with a minimum of five years of progressive maintenance or facilities experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • FMP or CMRP are assets and training certificates are assets.
  • Strong breadth across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, life-safety, infrastructure and maintenance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance and facilities operations across the resort, ensuring safety and service expectations are met.
  • Provide broad technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, life-safety, building and infrastructure systems.
  • Coordinate contractors and service providers to ensure work is safe, on schedule and within scope.
  • Support maintenance programs, asset records and lifecycle planning.
  • Assist with capital projects, budgets and vendor pricing.

Role Summary

The Assistant Maintenance and Facilities Manager is a current vacancy is accountable for the daily maintenance operations and delegating tasks to team members. They will maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems and equipment. This role is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain facility property and equipment according to safety and preventative maintenance systems and processes.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and support the day-to-day maintenance and facilities operations across the resort, ensuring work is prioritized and completed safely, efficiently and within service expectations.
  • Support preventive maintenance planning, troubleshooting, inspections and emergency response while maintaining resort facilities and operational spaces to a high standard.
  • Provide broad technical leadership across the resort’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, life-safety, building, infrastructure and utility systems.
  • Troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions and support equipment repair, replacement and lifecycle planning while engaging qualified specialists when required.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of maintenance programs that maximize equipment reliability and asset life.
  • Ensure inspections and scheduled maintenance are completed and documented, monitor equipment performance and trends, and maintain accurate asset records and maintenance histories.
  • Provide technical and operational support to Property Management, Landscaping, Marina and Nest Golf, coordinating maintenance activities and responding to building, infrastructure and operational needs.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to minimize disruption, support seasonal operations and address issues affecting resort facilities and services.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors and service providers to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within approved scope and to expected quality standards.
  • Support quotations, scopes, scheduling and vendor selection while maintaining strong supplier relationships and addressing performance concerns as required.
  • Support the planning and execution of capital projects and asset replacement initiatives by providing technical input into scopes, specifications, budgets and schedules.
  • Support compliance with applicable legislation, building and fire codes, safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing and certification, ensure deficiencies are addressed, and assist with life-safety, emergency preparedness, business continuity and operational risk management.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring employees and contractors follow safe work practices and applicable procedures.
  • Support inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations and required training, while promptly addressing unsafe conditions and maintaining compliance with workplace safety requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to the maintenance team, ensuring resources are aligned with operational priorities.
  • Support employee development, training, performance management and recruitment while promoting accountability, teamwork, professionalism and strong customer service.
  • Assist with the development and management of the maintenance operating budget by monitoring expenditures, forecasting costs and evaluating vendor pricing and repair requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, asset and technical records, ensuring work orders, inspections, equipment histories and supporting documentation are current and accessible.
  • Participate in the resort’s emergency and on-call response program, providing leadership and coordination during critical facility or infrastructure failures, when applicable.
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in facilities, building systems, engineering technology, industrial maintenance or a related discipline is preferred, along with a minimum of five years of progressive maintenance or facilities experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in complex resort, hospitality, commercial, residential or mixed-use environments, with strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance programs, contractors, budgets, and applicable Ontario safety and regulatory requirements.
  • FMP or CMRP are considered assets.
  • Any training certificates are considered assets.
  • Demonstrated technical breadth across building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, pumps, controls, life-safety, infrastructure and maintenance systems.
  • The candidate should be capable of troubleshooting and assessing issues, understanding technical documentation, managing assets and contractors, and making sound maintenance recommendations without necessarily being a trade expert in every discipline.
  • Have and maintain a valid Ontario drivers license
  • Must be computer literate. Preferred candidate will have previous experience property maintenance software, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be extremely responsible with integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing up to 30 pounds without assistance
  • Stand, sit or walk for an extended period or for an entire shift
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
  • Move over sloping, uneven or slippery surfaces
  • May encounter obnoxious smells
  • Will encounter hazardous materials, dangerous or toxic substances and chemicals
  • May encounter excessive noise from equipment
