  • Meal preparation and cooking (dietary needs).
  • Cleaning and maintaining the home (upkeep, laundry).
  • Providing emotional support and companionship.
  • Supporting individuals in recreational and community engagement activities.
  • Building professional relationships with those you support.
  • Crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation when needed.
  • Maintaining clear documentation (incident reports, logs).
  • Promoting independence while ensuring safety and well-being.

We serve a remarkable community of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Since founding in 1987 as part of the Welcome Home program, we have been dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual disabilities as they transition from institutional settings to vibrant community living. We provide 24-hour support to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, FASD, Mental Health challenges, problematic substance use, and behavioural and sensory challenges, ensuring each person receives the care, respect, and opportunities they deserve. We're committed to empowering individuals to thrive as valued members of their communities, celebrating their resilience and unique journeys every day.

Direct Support Worker:

We seek compassionate individuals to provide essential care and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing personal care and support (e.g., hygiene assistance, dressing, toileting, mobility support)
  • Attending and advocating at medical appointments
  • Managing medication regimens (following proper protocols and documentation)
  • Grocery shopping and meal planning
  • Meal preparation & cooking (considering dietary needs and preferences)
  • Cleaning & maintaining the home (household upkeep, laundry, organizing)
  • Providing emotional support and companionship
  • Supporting individuals in recreational and community engagement activities
  • Building strong, professional relationships with those you support
  • Crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation when needed
  • Maintaining clear and accurate documentation (incident reports, communication logs, daily notes)
  • Promoting independence while ensuring safety and well-being
  • Encouraging life skills development (e.g., cooking, cleaning, self-care, social skills)
  • Maintaining professional boundaries while fostering trust and support
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma.
  • 1-2 years of full-time experience working with adults with an intellectual disability.
  • Some post-secondary courses in the social services fields (Community Support Work, Mental Health courses)
  • Valid Driver's License is an asset
  • Specific training in the support work field (NVCI,ASIST, Mental Health First Aid)
  • Excellent workplace communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Advocacy.
  • Flexibility.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
Additional Requirements:
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector checked is required
  • Adult & Child Abuse Registry Check is required
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is required.
  • Applicants must be highly collaborative and willing to be flexible in the workplace settings
Preference may be given to Candidates who have the following:
  • Experience working with Mental Health
  • Experience working with Addictions.
  • Experience working within the Justice System
  • Experience working with people with Co-occurring disabilities.
  • Experience in providing personal care in a professional setting

Compensation & Benefits: The Direct Support Worker wage starts at $17.10 an hour.
