As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, we host more than 500 events each year and welcomes hundreds of thousands of global attendees to premier conferences, trade shows, banquets and more.

BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo), is currently searching for an Event Technician on a Part-Time basis for the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre.

You will work three days a week on the following shifts. Hours are based on event requirements.

Hourly Rate: $26.36 + 8% on top in lieu of vacation.

Benefits & Pension included based upon part-time hours.

Hours may not align with transit hours, primarily on a Sunday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work individually and as part of a team assisting the technicians with electrical and plumbing installations for various events.
  • Collect, sort, and restock electrical, compressed air, and plumbing equipment.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas to a high standard.
  • Assist with maintaining an inventory list of tools and equipment.
  • Install basic electrical, compressed air, and plumbing services (under supervision).
  • Work within tight deadlines and under pressure to complete requirements safely and to standards.
  • Adhere to all work safety regulations and practices and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Provide assistance to Event Technicians as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs by yourself and up to 110lbs with the assistance of a 2nd person.
  • Assist with light administrative duties as needed.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school certification or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-year experience in the event industry or skilled trades
  • LPEC (Live Performance Electrical Certification) preferred or must be able to obtain within 8 months of start date
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook and similar business software
  • Customer service experience dealing directly with clients is an asset
  • Valid forklift and scissor lift certification are an asset
  • Interest in the event and customer service industry is an asset; electrical training and hours can be counted towards Live Performance Entertainment Certificate (LPEC) practical work experience.
  • Strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills including ability to follow instructions and direction
  • Maintain a safety sensitive environment, proactively identifying safety concerns, and manage/report accordingly
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as well the ability to work effectively in a team environment, with tight deadlines
  • Maintains a positive attitude at all times.
  • Work is performed primarily indoors; however, must be mentally and physically able to deal with exposure to seasonal heat and cold in an outdoor and indoor environment, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights up to 50 lbs on your own.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain a highly professional, friendly, and courteous demeanor
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts including mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Interest in a skilled trades career is an asset; electrical training and hours can be counted towards Live Performance Entertainment Certificate (LPEC) practical work experience
