Job summary

PCL is seeking an Estimating Student for MELLOY Industrial Services Inc. in our Nisku, AB office. The eight‑month term begins January 2027 under the supervision of a Senior Estimator.

You will work on estimating, drafting, and quantity surveying tasks to support project bids. Ideal candidates will be pursuing an engineering degree, have an interest in construction, and be able to access a vehicle for the Nisku location.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an engineering degree and eager to work in a construction environment.
• Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets and drafting tools.
• Ability to collaborate with project teams and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply PCL estimating manuals, systems and forms.
• Review quantity survey assignments with lead/Chief Estimator.
• Perform drafting and design duties and quantity surveying tasks.
• Provide quantities of major purchase items for pricing.
• Transfer and review quantities with lead estimator.
• Assist with subtrade solicitation and bid day assignments.
• Visit job sites periodically and develop trade contractor relationships.

We are seeking an Engineering Student for our MELLOY Industrial Services Inc to work as Estimating Students in our Nisku, AB office. We are looking for students that are available for 8 months starting in January 2027. The positions will be under the direct supervisor of a Senior Estimator.

As an Estimating Student and depending on your assigned project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team by:

• Understanding and utilizing PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms
• Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator
• Performing drafting and design duties
• Performing assigned quantity survey
• Providing quantities of major purchase items to purchasing department for pricing
• Transferring and reviewing quantities with lead estimator
• Performing general subtrade solicitation duties
• Bid document control
• Performing bid day assignments
• Visiting job sites periodically
• Developing relationships with trade contractors
• Expanding on skills from first work term
• Other duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.

Our Nisku, AB office is not accessible by public transportation so the successful applicant for that location will need access to a vehicle.
