Job summary

PCL Construction is seeking an Estimating Student in Edmonton, AB, Canada, to support the Canadian Industrial Division. The 8‑month assignment begins January 2027 and will report to a lead estimator.

You will engage in quantity surveying, bid preparation, and relationship building with trade contractors on site. Applicants should be pursuing an engineering degree or diploma with civil or mechanical emphasis, with an interest in construction and knowledge of AutoCAD/Bluebeam a plus.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree or diploma in engineering with a mechanical or civil major.
• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment; prior field construction experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and Bluebeam is an asset; Microsoft Office proficiency required.

Responsibilities

• Understanding and utilizing PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms.
• Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator.
• Performing assigned quantity survey tasks, providing quantities of major purchase items for pricing.

We are seeking Civil and Mechanical Students for our Canadian Industrial Division to work as an Estimating Student in our Edmonton, AB office. We are looking for students that are available for 8 months starting in January 2027. The positions will be under the direct supervisor of a lead estimator.

Responsibilities

As an Estimating Student and depending on your assigned project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team by:

• Understanding and utilizing PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms
• Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator
• Performing assigned quantity survey
• Providing quantities of major purchase items to purchasing department for pricing
• Transferring and reviewing quantities with lead estimator
• Performing general subtrade solicitation duties
• Bid document control
• Performing bid day assignments
• Visiting job sites periodically
• Developing relationships with trade contractors
• Other duties as assigned by the lead estimator

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

• Pursuing a degree or diploma in engineering with a mechanical or civil major.
• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including Microsoft Suite. Knowledge of AutoCAD and Bluebeam is an asset.
• Self‑motivated.
