Job summary

PCL Construction is seeking an Engineering Student to join MELLOY Industrial Services Inc as an Estimating Student in our Nisku, AB office. This 8-month term begins in January 2027 and reports to a Senior Estimator.

You will gain hands-on experience with estimating manuals, quantity surveying, and drafting tasks while visiting job sites. Requirements include an interest in construction, basic drafting and Office software skills, and access to a vehicle due to office location in Nisku.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment.
• Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and drafting software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply PCL estimating manuals and forms.
• Review quantity survey with lead estimator.
• Assist in drafting and design tasks.
• Assist with quantity surveying and bid day duties.
• Provide quantities for major purchases to pricing.
• Visit job sites periodically.
• Develop relationships with trade contractors.
• Support senior estimator and expand skills.
• Perform bid document control.

We are seeking an Engineering Student for our MELLOY Industrial Services Inc to work as Estimating Students in our Nisku, AB office. We are looking for students that are available for 8 months starting in January 2027. The positions will be under the direct supervisor of a Senior Estimator.

Responsibilities

As an Estimating Student and depending on your assigned project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team by:

• Understanding and utilizing PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms
• Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator
• Performing drafting and design duties
• Performing assigned quantity survey
• Providing quantities of major purchase items to purchasing department for pricing
• Transferring and reviewing quantities with lead estimator
• Performing general subtrade solicitation duties
• Bid document control
• Performing bid day assignments
• Visiting job sites periodically
• Developing relationships with trade contractors
• Expanding on skills from first work term
• Other duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.

Our Nisku, AB office is not accessible by public transportation so the successful applicant for that location will need access to a vehicle.
