Job summary

PCL Construction Management Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta is hiring an Estimating Student for the Edmonton Buildings district. Engineering students from Civil or Mechanical backgrounds are invited to apply for a 4- to 12-month program starting in January 2027.

You will learn estimating practices, support lead estimators, and gain hands-on experience on real projects with mentorship, while building foundational industry skills and professional connections.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Civil or Mechanical engineering with strong interest in construction.
• Demonstrated willingness to work in a field construction environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply estimating manuals, systems and forms.
• Review quantity survey assignments with lead estimator or Chief Estimator.
• Perform assigned quantity survey tasks and transfer quantities to lead estimator.
• Support subtrade solicitation and bid document control activities.
• Develop relationships with subcontractors and assist on bid day tasks.
• Visit job sites periodically and assist with pricing insight.

Responsibilities

• Understanding and utilizing PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms
• Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator
• Performing assigned quantity survey
• Giving quantities of major purchase items to purchasing department for pricing
• Transferring quantities to lead estimator
• Performing general subtrade solicitation duties
• Bid document control
• Performing bid day assignments
• Visiting job sites periodically
• Developing relationships with subcontractors
• Other duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.
