Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a half-time Educational Assistant (EA 2) for ECS. The role, 12.5–15.5 hours per week, starts ASAP with a closing date of Oct 15, 2026.

The position requires an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma and involves supporting students’ cognition, communication, physical and social development. The successful candidate will work under teacher guidance, implement literacy/numeracy support, and collaborate with CST and other team members.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma required.
• Experience with school-based supports is an asset.
• Ability to collaborate with teachers and multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Assist with teacher-directed programming and classroom activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, CST and other team members to implement plans.
• Implement specialist strategies to assist goals (OT, PT, SLP etc).
• Assist with literacy/numeracy support and student activities.
• Assist with student mobility and safety as needed.

Requirements

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and other member of the multi-disciplinary team
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Able to work with student to implement and support literacy/numeracy
• Toileting routines if required
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Swim program, if required
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
