The Opportunity :

Our client, a progressive utility company, is seeking a dynamic Engineering Supervisor to join their team in Hamilton, Ontario . Reporting directly to the President, this role oversees the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of station equipment and infrastructure.

Responsibilities :

• Lead the Engineering Department focusing on safety, quality, productivity, and staff development.
• Manage a unionized workforce, including performance evaluations, work prioritization, and dispute resolution.
• Develop innovative, cost-effective solutions to improve system design efficiency and ensure service reliability.
• Conduct capacity planning considering local growth and distribution needs.
• Certify engineering designs and ensure compliance with Ontario regulations and standards.
• Manage engineering projects, including preparing work orders, schematics, and bills of materials.
• Oversee process improvements for effective communication and coordination across departments.
• Collaborate with Operations to complete projects efficiently and within budget.
• Prepare tender and RFP documents, review bids, and select contractors.
• Implement and enhance database systems supporting utility operations such as metering and system monitoring.
• Work with Finance on long-term financial planning, system development, and regulatory filings.
• Manage departmental budgets, including capital and operational expenditures.

Ideal Candidate :

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in electrical engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years in electrical engineering, focusing on design, construction, and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Over 3 years of supervisory experience in a utility or similar sector.
• Possession of an EIT or P.Eng designation.
• Knowledge of electrical design standards and regulations.
• Strong project planning, budgeting, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with GIS and SCADA software.
