Job summary

Tourmaline Oil in Calgary is seeking engineering intern students for a 16‑month term position at our Calgary office. This internship provides hands-on experience across drilling, facility construction, and AB/NEBC production activities, working with cross-disciplinary teams.

You will assist in planning, data management, and project support under the supervision of project managers, travel to field sites as needed, and contribute to cost, schedule, and safety efforts while developing practical

Qualifications

• Completing third or fourth year of engineering degree and returning to full-time studies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional relationship with Tourmaline contractors and staff ensuring alignment with the Tourmaline Code of Conduct, ensuring no conflict of interest is present in the relationship.
• Update, create and maintain project data in internal systems (project inventory, AFE, regulatory and reporting)
• Work with cross disciplined teams to understand Tourmaline’s upstream oil and gas business
• Manage project specific requirements with support of Project Manager
• Planning, executing and closing out projects with support of Project Manager
• Organizing schedules and planning procurement for upcoming projects
• Assisting in execution including delivering on cost, schedule and safety requirements
• Complete project closeout documentation and lessons learned / project lookbacks as required
• Travel to field operations for site visits and meetings as required
• Complete 2-4 projects throughout the term. Projects to focus on both technical and commercial aspects of the business
• Review performance metrics and support team in continuous improvement.
• Ensure major trouble time events are well documented and shared with the Drilling Team.
• Kickoff and review of project documentation for accuracy with support of project manager. This includes but is not limited to: Surveys & plot plans Environmental and Archeology reports
• Review of EPC’s documentation for accuracy with support of Project Manager Review DBM’s, IFA, IFC, as-built drawings Final construction package documentation
• Monitor well production rates and managing regular well reviews to optimize production.
• Planning and providing engineering execution support for workovers. Conducting associated failure analysis investigations and work with relevant stakeholders to optimize artificial lift runtime.
• Improving base production and facilities performance, in partnership with geology, operations and facilities staff.
• Conduct accruals and forecast capital and production for area as required.
• Assisting in project management of methane mitigation and measurement trials associated with new and novel technologies.
• Supporting field installations and commissioning of emissions-reduction technologies.
• Assisting in the preparation and management of government grant applications and reporting.
• Conducting analysis of carbon markets and offset economics to inform project decisions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for or assist with the following duties but not be limited to:

Experience Requirements

The successful candidate needs to have experience in the following areas in order to be qualified for this role:

Completing third or fourth year of an engineering degree program (chemical, mechanical, Energy, and Petroleum/Oil & Gas disciplines preferred) and returning to full time studies upon completion of the work term

Previous experience in oil and gas / regulatory is an asset but not required.
