Job summary

FortisBC is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op student for a project management-focused role in Surrey, BC. The assignment provides exposure to engineers and managers across departments, supporting design and operation of the gas system.

The role involves project-related tasks such as facility and pipeline design, stakeholder coordination, and preparation of reports and design proposals. Enrolment in a Co-op program with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical is required.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering program with a focus on Mechanical Engineering (third or fourth-year preferred).
• Enrolled in a Co-op program.
• Valid driver’s license and current abstract.

Responsibilities

• Design of natural gas facilities and pipelines including stress analysis and equipment sizing and selection.
• Engage internal and external stakeholders and team members in completion of capital projects.
• Perform engineering assessments, identify opportunities and deficiencies, and complete written reports/proposals for existing and proposed infrastructure.
• Research and develop design standards.
• Recommend process improvements and ensure compliance with company and industry codes and standards.

Position Overview

The assignment will provide opportunities for engagement with engineers, managers and others in different departments in the organization, and provide an understanding of some of the workings within the operating and engineering groups at FortisBC.

In this role, you will:

What it takes:

Other Qualifications

• A passion for the energy industry and the utility world
• Experience or knowledge with CAD applications
• Experience with interpreting mechanical and P&ID drawings of piping systems
• A knack for public speakingYou get your points and messages across with ease and respect so you can work harmoniously with a variety of people
• Know the ins and outs of Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with report and memo writing in a corporate environment
