Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform EEG recordings (standard and complex) or EMG/NCS as assigned.
  • Observe patient changes during testing and interpret findings with physician input.
  • Prepare, update and maintain patient records; ensure proper operation of equipment; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Inform physician of urgent results and resolve unusual or complex cases; train junior personnel and support in-service training.
  • Travel to other adult acute care sites in the Calgary Zone as required.

Job description

Under general supervision, the EEG Technologist I performs either standard and complex EEG recordings or Nerve Conduction Studies (EMG). They may provide EEG Technologist support to the Seizure Monitoring unit and may or may not do Ictal SPECT injections depending on the scope of their license. The technologist will also train in other modalities. There is an expectation that the technologist will also assist in the in-service training of junior personnel. The technologist is required to operate, maintain and troubleshoot electro neurophysiology equipment and keep accurate patient records. This position requires travel to and working at other adult acute care sites in the Calgary Zone as required.

Description:

As an Electroneurophysiology (ENP) Technologist, you will perform appropriate tests on all age groups, utilizing a variety of electrode application methods and explain testing procedures to clients/patients and family. You will observe physical changes in the patient during testing, prepare results and/or interprets findings for/with physician. You will prepare, update and maintain patient records.You will ensure proper operation of equipment by performing maintenance, calibration, cleaning and detect any equipment malfunction, make minor repairs or report the need for major repairs to the appropriate person. You will inform the physician of urgent examination results and resolve unusual or complex cases or refers concerns to the appropriate individual(s).

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduation from a formal electrophysiology program or equivalent training. Successful completion of Canadian Board of Registration of EEG Technologists (CBRET) examinations or equivalent or successful completion of Board of Registration of Electromyography of Canada (BRETC) examinations. English language fluency to meet ACMDTT policy. Current CPR certification. Physical abilities: prolonged sitting/standing, pushing/pulling of equipment, assisting with patient transfers, sustained awkward postures involved in day-to-day work activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 2-3 years work experience in a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab is desired. ACMDTT Ictal SPECT injection enhanced practice authorization desired.
