Raise is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Burnaby, BC to lead PCM and electrical infrastructure projects for a major client. You will design electrical systems, perform critical calculations, and provide field support to ensure safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery.

Responsibilities

Electrical Engineer

• Pay Rate: $105.00hour, depending on experience
• Contract Length: 1 year
• Location: Burnaby, British Columbia

Raise is currently hiring an Electrical Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description

The Electrical Engineer to join our client’s team, taking ownership of Protection, Control, and Metering (PCM) and electrical infrastructure projects within our generating station portfolio. In this role, you will apply your deep technical expertise to deliver safe, high-quality engineering solutions for medium-complexity projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

• Detailed Design & Technical Leadership: Provide hands-on design and technical direction for electrical equipment and systems, including switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, power cables, and station service power supplies.
• Professional of Record (PoR): Prepare, review, and seal engineering deliverables in accordance with EGBC bylaws and Design Practices. (Note: Candidates must hold or operate under an EGBC Permit to Practice).
• Project & Package Management: Prepare design work packages (scope, duration, level of effort), manage project schedules, coordinate multiple initiatives, and oversee project resources and cost controls.
• Calculations & Studies: Perform critical power system calculations including grounding studies, arc flash studies, short-circuit calculations, and cable designs.
• Field Support & Testing: Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, undertake field reviews, and review/approve Inspection Test Plans (ITP) and Factory/Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT).
• Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, direction, and mentorship to junior engineers to build future technical capability at .
• Tendering & Procurement: Prepare technical specifications for tendering, evaluate vendor proposals, and make formal recommendations for awards.

Qualifications

• (8) years of progressively responsible experience in a relevant electrical engineering field, ideally within power generation or utility environments.
• Knowledge in power system planning, system operation, protection & control engineering, and project management.
• Experience with generation, standards, and other electrical standards including both national (CSA, ULC) and international (IEEE, IEC, etc.) is an asset.
• Provide detail design and technical leadership for switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, grounding, lightning, lighting, power cables and station service power supply system design.
• Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineers; to manage design tasks including scope, schedule and cost;
• Ability to find engineering solutions that add value and to reach consensus;
• Ability to communicate efficiently including verbal and technical writing in the English language, analytical, interpersonal communications and presentation skills;
• Experience in project management including estimating, cost control and project administration.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and to plan and manage project resources.
• Ability to prepare technical specifications for tendering, evaluate tenders, and make recommendations for awards.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
