Job summary

AVL Manufacturing is seeking an Electrical Designer in Hamilton with 5+ years of electrical design experience. The role involves designing electrical equipment and systems from concept to completed product, and close collaboration with the Electrical Design Supervisor to ensure successful project designs.

The designer will develop control panels, study customer requirements, produce detailed specs and BOMs, and ensure compliance with NFPA79, NEC, and other codes.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • At least 5 years of electrical design experience.
  • P.Eng designation strongly preferred.
  • Control engineering systems design, PLC design and programming knowledge.
  • High level of CAD / AutoCAD Electrical knowledge and experience.
  • Strong Proficiency with Electrical Codes – NFPA79, NEC, CEC, CSA and UL.
  • Good Design Skills, Presenting Technical Information, Conceptual Skills, Quality Focus.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate electrical and electromechanical project requirements and create designs that meet project success criteria.
  • Design of control panels and system conduit/hardware for projects.
  • Develop electrical control systems, control panels and related hardware by studying customer requirements and testing methods.
  • Produce detailed specifications, drawing packages & Bill of Materials.
  • Research and ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and regulations.
  • Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance.
  • Specify system components or direct modification to meet design and performance specs.
  • Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods and validating fabrication, assembly, and installation.
  • Collaborate with other professionals within and outside the Engineering Department.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations and relevant codes & practices.
  • Provide external technical support to new and existing customers through field visits, meetings, and design reviews.
  • Participate in estimating, including component selection, costs, timing estimates, reports and designs.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Designer’s primary function is to design, plan, research, evaluate and test electrical equipment and systems and to provide full cycle electrical designs and drawings from concept to completed product. The Electrical designer will work closely with the Electrical Design Supervisor to ensure successful project designs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • 6. Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • 7. Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • 8. Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes that conform to AVL ISO quality procedures.
  • 9. Work well with other Professionals within and outside the Engineering Department.
  • 10. Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations and relevant codes & practices.
  • 11. Provide external technical support to new and existing customers through field visits, customer meetings, and design reviews.
  • 12. Participate in estimating, including component selection, costs, timing estimates, reports and designs.
