ERM is hiring an Environmental Coordinator in Whitby, Ontario. In this critical role, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving the environment, health, and safety programs for the facility. The environmental coordinator will have broad knowledge of EHS compliance programs and, where required, EHS specialty areas including Industrial Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Risk Management, and Process Safety. This role will provide guidance in managing budgets to support outside services and operating expenses. The role includes strategic EHS planning as well as a tactical role for site-wide EHS systems, EHS regulations, and best practices. This is a part-time (24 hours a week) limited-term role with a duration of 4 months and possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure that necessary EHS information is reported to local regulators and to stakeholders.
  2. Prepare and submit local, state, and other regulatory reports as required, ensuring site EHS Regulatory compliance.
  3. Review and track investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, non-injury accidents, and near-misses to ensure effectiveness and root cause resolution. Lead investigations into serious adverse events. Monitor and analyze EHS performance and initiate corrective actions.
  4. Provide timely, high-quality EHS technical support and training. Design, conduct, and oversee EHS training programs.
  5. Carry out regular workplace inspections to monitor compliance with site rules and procedures. Develop and manage an internal audit program to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  6. Coordinate the completion of job safety analyses and risk assessments. Conduct environmental impact assessments to identify key environmental priorities.
  7. Establish site EHS policies, objectives, KPIs, and targets aligned with local needs and the client’s long-term EHS strategy. Manage the site’s EHS risks and impacts within an overall EHS management system.
  8. Review change proposals (including capital projects and new product introductions) for potential EHS issues and participate in their resolution.
  9. Maintain local EHS SOPs that describe the site’s EHS management system effectively.
  10. Champion a strong safety culture and maximize personnel involvement in EHS activities.
  11. Coordinate local business continuity, emergency response, and crisis management plans. Develop and test these plans with realistic scenarios.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  2. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience working with industrial clients on regulatory and sustainable EHS compliance programs.
  3. Ability to interpret federal and state OSHA regulations in detail.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Valid driver’s license.
