Job summary

Kingston Health Sciences Centre in Kingston, Ontario offers a structured two-year, hospital-based EEG Technologist training program that prepares you to pursue registration with CBRET.

Year 1 is unpaid student training; Year 2 is a paid trainee role with progressive responsibility and clinical exposure. The program includes mentorship from experienced EEG, EMG, and Sleep Technologists and a direct pathway to CBRET certification.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education; a Health Sciences degree is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort with computers and digital systems.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and ability to work under time pressure.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening.

Responsibilities

  • Participate fully in KHSC’s EEG training curriculum and supervised clinical rotations.
  • Perform and assist with EEG, evoked potentials, EMG, and polysomnography (PSG).
  • Review orders for appropriateness and escalate questions to technologists and physicians as needed.
  • Document procedures and maintain accurate clinical records.

EEG Technologist Student Trainee — Two‑Year Training Program (2 Positions)

Department: Clinical Neurophysiology – EEG
Location: Kingston General Hospital (Kingston, ON)
Schedule: Temporary Full-Time (Days), approximately 2 4 months
Compensation: Year 1 (unpaid student role); Year 2 (paid trainee role, $33.94 per hour)
Tuition: No tuition or program fees charged by KHSC

Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) offers a structured two‑year, hospital‑based accredited EEG Technologist training program that prepares you to pursue registration as an EEG Technologist through the Canadian Board of Registration of Electroencephalograph Technologists, Inc (CBRET).

  • Year 1: Unpaid, supervised clinical training at KHSC with no tuition costs.
  • Year 2: Paid trainee role with progressive responsibility and clinical exposure.
  • Certification Pathway: After Year 1, you are eligible to write CBRET Part I. Successful candidates may progress to a paid Year 2 trainee appointment to complete experience requirements and, upon readiness, challenge CBRET Part II (oral, record review, and clinical/practical).
What You Will Learn and Do

Under the supervision of registered technologists and the Senior and Charge EEG Technologists, you will:

  • Participate fully in KHSC’s EEG training curriculum and supervised clinical rotations.
  • Perform and assist with clinical neurophysiology procedures, including EEG, evoked potentials, EMG, and polysomnography (PSG, sleep studies), in accordance with institutional standards and under appropriate supervision.
  • Review orders for appropriateness and accuracy; escalare questions to technologists and physicians as needed.
  • Document procedures and maintain accurate clinical records.
  • Provide clear, compassionate patient education in collaboration with your preceptor.
  • Communicate assessment findings promptly and accurately to the precepting technologist and health‑care team.
  • Adhere to departmental and hospital safety practices; contribute to quality improvement and risk management activities.
  • Maintain logs of procedures performed with and without direct supervision.
Who Should Apply

  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Post‑secondary education; a Health Sciences degree is preferred.
