Position : Senior Process Safety Engineer

Primary Location : Home Based Western Canada or US

Reports to : Manager, Engineering

Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific salary range for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, benefits, pension contributions, or additional incentives.

About This Role and You

This position provides Process Safety Management oversight and leadership to Chemtrade as part of the Process Safety Team. In this role, you will develop knowledge and systems to improve Process Safety Management systems, lead Process Hazard Analyses, participate in audits and assessments, and represent Chemtrade at industry forums and conferences.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field and a Professional Engineer designation in your home region
  • 5+ years of Process Engineering and Process Safety Management experience with direct operational support in industrial manufacturing
  • Experience with PHA software such as PHA-Pro or Stature
  • Experience conducting and leading process safety audits
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes, standards, and guidelines related to Process Safety and Design
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to troubleshoot when required
  • Above-average technical writing and presentation skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and able to manage through influence
  • Able to travel up to 40%, predominantly within Canada and the US
  • Functional Safety and SIS design/implementation experience is an asset
  • Bilingual skills (French/English) are an asset
Responsibilities
  • Function as part of the Process Safety Team, providing guidance to site coordinators and management/corporate personnel on overall Process Safety Management strategy, standards, guidelines, and execution.
  • Develop and deliver training on Chemtrade's Process Safety policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOPs, LOPAs, What-Ifs, and Bowties.
  • Process Safety Program Monitoring and Reporting: report on progress against established targets.
  • Participate in and lead incident investigations.
  • Develop and implement protocols and processes to assess facilities’ Process Safety performance, including auditing as part of the Responsible Care auditing programs.
  • Represent Chemtrade in industry Process Safety groups (such as CCPS, CIAC Process Safety Network, and other industry-specific Process Safety Associations).
  • Monitor developments in Process Safety best practices and incorporate them into Chemtrade's program as appropriate.
  • Implement improvements to the Process Safety program as needed to support improved performance.
  • Support specific initiatives and projects, utilizing Process Engineering and Process Safety expertise to identify issues, designs, and controls requiring improvement; provide guidance to site technical personnel; and recommend and/or implement solutions.
  • Provide Process Safety oversight and support for major projects.
  • Offer process engineering support for sites without onsite engineering.
  • Collaborate with project managers, site engineers, and the corporate resource team to ensure successful project execution.
