About The Job – Network Security Engineer

Our Network Security Engineers operate within the Platform Technology area of Platform Services and take primary responsibility for monitoring and maintaining a secure network environment through knowledge and tooling, working closely with other teams across Admiral Data & Tech, and Cybersecurity.

Reporting to the Network Security Domain Lead, a Network Security Engineer will configure systems to defined standards, deliver a secure environment, and drive service improvements and enhancements.

Platform Technology has a long history of managing networks, firewalls, and application delivery controllers through a central Network team. More recently, Network Security has been separated into its own area to focus on a broadening remit and wider portfolio of tools, including WAAP, SASE, and PKI. Directionally, we are looking to implement greater levels of automation and self-service to increase velocity across all engineering teams.

Requirements / Technologies

  • You will have worked with many technologies across all aspects of IT with extensive demonstrable experience of:
    • Network security and building secure environments
    • L4/L7 Firewalling using technologies such as Palo Alto and F5 Big-IP
    • WAAP technology such as F5 Distributed Cloud, Akamai, Cloudflare
    • Secure Access Service Edge, preferably Netskope
    • PKI and PKI platforms
    • Automation and Infrastructure as Code; Terraform, Git, Ansible, Python, Azure DevOps, etc.
    • Cyber security concepts and frameworks
    • Working in an Agile environment
  • You will be an excellent communicator, verbal and written.
  • You will have a track record of solving complex problems and challenges.
  • It is expected you will be a network security technology expert with 5 + years of experience.
  • You will be expected to maintain your expertise staying current in relevant technologies through research and other means.
  • You will have produced numerous technology documents including solution diagrams, process and procedures
  • You will be comfortable producing a range of artifacts to effectively communicate with senior stakeholders within the organisation
  • You will champion and oversee the design, adoption, and implementation of best practices
  • You will continuously identify and promote innovative ways of using technology to maximise business value

Responsibilities

  • Configuration of network security applications to achieve business outcomes, adhering to Admiral processes.
  • Monitoring and lifecycle management of network security applications.
  • Participate in incident and problem management.
  • Participate in the development of fit for purpose network solutions, ensuring they meet non-functional requirements (scale, performance, security).
  • Ensure that security is at the heart of every solution.
  • To work in tandem with others in the organisation to understand the business goals and vision, and to contribute to the Enterprise Roadmaps.
  • Work closely with the Tribe / Projects leads supporting them as required.
  • Actively participating in the Technology governance process, as required.
  • Producing documentation (HLD’s, concept presentations, exec summaries etc) of a high-quality and to a detailed level.
  • Participate in the production of Low-Level Designs.
  • Provide consultancy services to internal customers and colleagues by offering technical guidance and support.
  • Maintain and comply with best standards and practices, and Group Minimum Standards.
