Abilities Centre is seeking a Board Director to provide leadership and governance in support of its mission to unlock potential through accessibility. This volunteer role requires commitment to attending meetings and events, overseeing financial and governance responsibilities, and ensuring the organization promotes inclusion and accessibility.

The Position:
Reporting to theChair, Board Directors, the role of the Board Director is to provide leadership and governance in support of the organization’s strategic plan to actualize the purpose, mission, and vision of Abilities Centre.
The Commitment:
·Attendance at Board meetings is expected. Hybrid meetings are held every other month from 7-9 am.
·Participation on one of the Board’s standing committees is expected.
·Attendance at the organizations’ events is encouraged. Attendance at one (minimum) of the organization’s events is expected. There are typically 3-4 events throughout the year.
What You’ll Do:
Financial Oversight:
·The Board is responsible for approving the annual budget and financial statements, as well as annually appointing the auditor.
·The Board is responsible for ensuring Executive Leadership Team are operating in a fiscally responsible manner and providing advice and guidance, as needed, with regards to the financial affairs of the organization.
IDEA:
·The Board is responsible for ensuring that Abilities Centre promotes full inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in all areas of the business. As an organization whose mandate is to be accessible and inclusive to all, it is critical that Abilities Centre remains on the forefront of advances in accessible program and facility design.
Expansion:
·The Board is responsible for providing oversight of any plans to expand the capital infrastructure of the organization, including proposed new builds or major capital renovations to the existing facilities.
Governance:
·The Board is responsible for overseeing proper governance of the organization, including, but not limited to, adherence to organizational bylaws and regulatory requirements, approval of policies, risk management, and legal matters.
Human Resources:
·The Board is responsible for overseeing the President & CEO, including, but not limited to, establishing performance goals, setting compensation, conducting performance evaluations, and providing mentorship.

Experience:
·Experience serving on a Board of Directors
·Experience working in or volunteering for a not-for-profit organization(s)
·Experience working in or volunteering for an organization(s) that prioritizes the principles of IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility)
Administrative Requirements.
·It is required that you have a current, clear vulnerable sector check.
