Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is Canada’s leading hospital network, comprising 10 sites and a large Laboratory Medicine Program. We are seeking an Lab Assistant/Technician to support ECG, venipuncture, specimen management, and pre-analytic processing across all UHN sites.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent.
• Graduate of a post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program, or recognized equivalent.
• MLPAO or CSMLS license, preferred.
• Minimum one (1) year related work experience in a laboratory setting.
• Minimum one (1) year recent work experience in venipuncture, ECG and specimen management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation.
• Effective organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of appropriate behaviour required working successfully in a diverse work group.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory.
• Computer literate in Windows based applications.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member.
• Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform ECG on inpatient and outpatients.

• Manipulate and process specimens as per laboratory protocols.

• Organize and arrange transport of specimens.
• Practice and provide patient-centered care.

Position Summary

The successful candidates will support Laboratory Medicine by performing ECG, Venipuncture on inpatients/outpatients as well as Specimen Management duties.
