Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) invites applications for a Laboratory Technologist within the Laboratory Medicine Program, Transfusion Medicine. Join Canada's largest hospital diagnostic lab, contributing to 30 million tests annually and supporting a leadership role in pathology and clinical testing.

You will work in a dynamic team across all shifts, performing procedures, documenting results, and participating in safety and quality initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program.
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO).
  • One year recent laboratory experience in a large hospital Transfusion Medicine department (preferred).
  • Demonstrates ability to develop skill and knowledge in all areas of the laboratory.
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem solving skills.
  • Effective time management and ability to set priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Ability to work well in a team and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
  • Ability to coach technical staff.

The division of Laboratory Medicine Program specializes in performing laboratory procedures for all disciplines and functions and ensuring the completion of assigned workload. As a valued member of Team LMP, you will play a key role in adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Duties
  • Operating, troubleshooting and maintaining cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area
  • Preparing written and electronic reports required to document procedures and test results
  • Participating in teaching, educational, safety and quality improvement programs
  • Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO)
  • One (1) year recent laboratory experience in a large hospital Transfusion Medicine department, preferred
  • Demonstrates ability to develop skill and knowledge in all areas of the laboratory (on-the-job experience)
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of laboratory procedures, instruments, equipment and special techniques (on-the-job experience), in assigned area
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem solving-skills
  • Effective time management skills; ability to organize work and set priorities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
