Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is a leading Canadian hospital system with multiple sites and a large, diverse laboratory medicine program. The role sits within the Laboratory Medicine Program, Core & Rapid Response Laboratories, reporting to the Senior Manager and offering a 22.5-hour weekly schedule as a temporary part-time position across all sites.

Successful candidates will have a Medical Laboratory Technologist credential, active CMLTO registration, and ideally one year of hospital

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program.
• Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO).
• One year recent laboratory experience in a large hospital Biochemistry Laboratory preferred.
• Demonstrates ability to develop skill and knowledge in all areas of the laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Operate, troubleshoot and maintain cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area.
• Prepare written and electronic reports to document procedures and test results.
• Participate in teaching, educational, safety and quality improvement programs.
• Observe and follow Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Hours: 22.5 hours per week

Salary: $36.84 - $50.24 per hour. Start rate non-negotiable.

Shifts: Variable 24/7

Status: Temporary Part Time (until February 2028)

Duties

• Operating, troubleshooting and maintaining cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program, required
• Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO), required
• One (1) year recent laboratory experience in a large hospital Biochemistry Laboratory, preferred
• Demonstrates ability to develop skill and knowledge in all areas of the laboratory (on-the-job experience)
• Knowledge of the theory and practice of laboratory procedures, instruments, equipment and special techniques (on-the-job experience), in assigned area
• Excellent problem recognition and problem solving-skills
• Effective time management skills; ability to organize work and set priorities
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Computer literacy
• Ability to work effectively as a team member
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
• Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and practices
