The Accountant is responsible for a variety of accounting functions relating to the finance and budget processes, including forecasting, analysis, and preparation of reports for management.
Job Duties:
- Performs a variety of accounting functions, including the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, variance analysis, and forecast preparation.
- Performs monthly financial analysis by researching budget discrepancies of actual expenses and variance reporting, working with relevant parties to provide explanations.
- Oversees vendor contracts, statements of work, deliverables, and invoicing, including tracking invoices to deliverables, obtaining approvals, and processing payments.
- Performs scenario analysis and updates forecasted year-end financial results for major initiatives on a monthly basis or as requested.
- Prepares and/or develops financial reports and templates to enable consistent, reliable, and effective financial reporting for decision-making by senior finance leaders, the WCB Executive, and the Board of Directors.
- Performs expense and data analysis and prepares reports for management.
- Maintains general ledger integrity for operating and capital expenses.
- Assists in developing, documenting, and implementing financial policies and procedures.
- Prepares various monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and ad-hoc financial reports, including FIPPA requests.
- Performs year-end analysis for external auditors.
- Ensures accounting practices adhere to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Board policies.
- Supports corporate initiatives and projects through report preparation.
- Pursues professional and personal development through continuing education, workshops, seminars, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Actively pursuing the final stages of the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Minimum of three (3) years of full cycle budget/accounting experience, including report preparation, analysis, project accounting, general ledger entry, and complex reconciliations.
- Current knowledge of IFRS.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Financial Accounting & Human Resource Management software in a Windows environment.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
- Effective analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform detailed, accurate work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) is an asset but not required.
