Job Description

Market Development Specialist

12-month full-time contract

Preferred location: Halifax, NS

Secondary location: Ottawa, ON

Do you love animals and the people who love them? Are you passionate about joining an organization with a clear and inspired purpose? Maybe you already work in a veterinary practice and are looking to expand your skillset? Make your love of pets into the career of a lifetime. NVA Canada is looking for a Market Development Specialist to join our Canadian Support Centre team and provide enhanced support to our community of veterinary practices.

The Market Development Specialist provides hands-on support to NVA Canada veterinary practices aiming to increase pet parent acquisition, satisfaction, and retention. Reporting to the NVA Canada marketing team and working directly with Operations and Hospital Leadership teams, they develop clinic and pet owner campaigns, advise hospitals on best marketing practices for their local communities, and lead the implementation of key marketing programs and activities.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Drive organic growth by reaching more pet parents and optimizing retention

  • Lead new pet parent acquisition initiatives.
  • Champion increased, contemporary pet parent communication and engagement for optimal customer service and engagement of existing clients (e.g., online booking, reminders, SMS/email, lapsing patient reports, etc.).
  • Lead the site-level implementation of national campaigns and advocate for community outreach and activations.
  • Oversee tactical execution and organize creative materials where appropriate (e.g., logos, advertisements, brochures, SEM, merchandizing, flyers, mailers, collateral, content calendars, social media, email, websites, etc.).
  • Develop campaign analytics/measurement and reporting for effective follow-up and decision-making; manage budget, vendors, and agencies to coordinate logistics and deliverables for all projects.

Build individual practice brands in their respective communities

  • Work alongside hospital and operations teams to understand and help build and execute individualized clinic growth plans.
  • Create strategic, multi-channel marketing plans based on data and aligned with the overall needs and objectives of your assigned hospitals.
  • Manage assigned hospital social properties, websites, and online reputation by curating content, optimizing paid and organic posts, and responding to online customer comments and concerns.

What You’ll Bring to NVA Canada:

  • 3+ years experience in marketing, sales, or veterinary hospital operations. Some casual marketing experience (e.g., social media) is beneficial.
  • Marketing, Communications, or Veterinary Technician Diploma or equivalent experience in a veterinary setting.
  • Strong project management, organization, communication, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Experience or willingness to learn tools such as M365, client communication platforms, Asana, Canva, ServiceNow, AllyDVM, SproutSocial, GMB/GA, Vetstoria, e-newsletter tools, website management, and clinic PIMS.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% locally (in-clinic) and 10% nationally.

You’ll Love This Role if You Have:

  • Enthusiasm, positivity, flexibility, and creativity.
  • A passion for the veterinary industry and ambition for personal and career growth.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport quickly.
  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter with a methodical approach, and work occasional evenings or weekends (with time off provided in lieu).
