Base pay range

CA$80,000.00/yr - CA$120,000.00/yr

Taylor Ryan has partnered with a well-known general contractor that specializes in building commercial/institutional and mixed-use projects throughout BC. The ideal candidate would have a technical diploma such as in Construction Management or Architectural Building Technology and 2+ years of experience in Construction Estimating. This position reports to the Chief Estimator.

Office based in Burnaby BC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create estimates for commercial and institutional projects
• Review and develop discipline and multi-discipline materials takeoffs
• Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with the team to confirm complete scope
• Prepare instructions to bidders, bid forms, and other bid solicitation materials
• Evaluate and develop construction rates, subcontract cost estimates, and proposals
• Perform productivity analysis of cost estimates; compare scope, quantities, and cost data between projects
• Review designs and specifications for cost-effectiveness; provide recommendations for alternatives
• Contact sub-trades and suppliers for estimates; supply necessary drawings and data
• Handle construction-related questions proactively from sub-trades and suppliers
• Complete preliminary construction schedules
• Present estimates to required parties when needed
• Review completed estimates to improve future accuracy
• Participate in estimate/project handover meetings with Operations

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in cost estimating for commercial/institutional projects; residential woodframe or concrete projects are assets
• Formal education in construction (Diploma/Certificate), ideally in Engineering, Architectural Building Science, or Construction Management
• Quantity Surveying or accounting degree and relevant experience are assets
• Understanding of construction sites is an asset
• Strong documentation and organizational skills for complex information
• Ability to communicate estimating concepts clearly
• Knowledge of Building Construction from concept to completion
• Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, oral, interpersonal)
• Leadership qualities and professionalism
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Timberline, MS Project, Insite
