Job description

Reporting to the Operations Manager - BC, this role is responsible for preparing our Outside Plant (OSP) Construction project estimates; Request for Quotation (RFQ), Request for Tender (RFT), and Request for Proposals (RFP). In addition, this individual will perform or assist in a variety of quality control and inspection work related to Outside Plant Telecommunications construction, ensuring all relevant standards, codes and regulations are met for all stages of the construction process.

The position will also be a liaison in the field for the Design and Infrastructure teams, performing site audits, verification of pathways and engaging in customer and client on-site relations. This position will also be responsible for managing any subcontractors performing work on their assigned sites.

As an OSP Construction QA/Estimator, you will be required to conduct field & site assessments as needed within the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island (roughly 25-50% of time).

This is a remote opportunity based in the Lower Mainland. The role is approximately 50% QA/QC work and 50% Estimating for OSP Projects.

YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

  • Inspect both in progress and completed projects to ensure they comply with the project specifications and the company’s quality control standards
  • Identify, report, and resolve work that does not meet the quality requirements
  • Complete all associated documentation and forms for individual inspections, ensuring accuracy of all documents
  • Act as the field liaison for build, design, vendor, and client representatives
  • Attend site meetings as required
  • Perform site Safety inspections as required
  • Assist in project previews, estimates, and evaluate post-construction redlines, test results and completion documentation for accuracy
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with external clients as well as vendors
  • Manage large volumes of work including scheduling work, and remove roadblocks as appropriate (i.e., materials, permitting issues, unforeseen changes during construction)
  • Request separate quotations from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers, per the scope of work
  • Estimate costs to complete project
  • Prepare a proposal as per the requirements, provided documents, drawings, etc.
  • Track and coordinate proposal timing, duration, and deadlines.
  • Meet with Operations Manager, Project Manager(s), to discuss and provide explanation of project estimates to gain signatures/approval for profitable business
  • Review with the Operations Manager, and Project Manager(s) the project performances, project productivities in view of improving estimates based on actual results.

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

  • At least 3-5 years of estimating, strategizing, and preparing proposals within the OSP construction industry, resulting in successful & profitable projects, as well as experience in a Telecommunications construction environment is required
  • OSP construction knowledge is required
  • Civil construction experience would be considered an asset
  • Experience working within various types of construction project and drawings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong planning and organization skills
  • Excellent negotiation and consulting skills
  • Experienced and knowledgeable of Microsoft Office and Adobe programs
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a good driver’s abstract
  • Must be able to provide a good criminal check prior to commencing employment
