A Senior Estimator is needed to join a growing construction engineering consultancy team based in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland area. Your job duties will be to prepare estimates on major highway, bridge, transportation, rail and transit projects ranging in size from $20m to multi-Billion dollar major projects.

As Senior Estimator, you will support the Estimating team on large projects and work independently on your own estimating work on small and medium-sized projects.

You will work closely with your colleagues in the estimating team and will also provide cost and estimating support to the other business units.

Estimating experience is required and you will be ambitious and looking for fast track training and development.

Suitable Senior Estimating candidates will be based in Vancouver / the Lower Mainland and will balance working from home and working in the downtown Vancouver office as required; probably for 2-4 days a week.

This exciting and varied Senior Estimator job role will include in-depth estimating, tendering and risk evaluation work on a range of civil engineering infrastructure and rail and transit projects to be constructed in Canada.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Managing the cost estimating and pricing of projects from the ground up using Labour, Equipment and Materials supported by a construction schedule and constructability plan.
  • Advising clients on budgets and helping them to manage their cost management systems.
  • Working as an integral part of a team comprising designers, planners and specialist advisors.
  • Undertaking live client interface responsibilities at a management level.
  • Understanding, identifying and evaluating project risks for inclusion in the project budget.
  • Managing the costing of projects from drawings at different stages of design from preliminary through conceptual to IFC drawings, using real world construction experience.
  • Reviewing tender documents, geotechnical reports and construction drawings to predict future project duration and establish robust project budgets.
  • Being proficient with HSS, HeavyBid, Bid2Win and/or other comparable construction industry pricing software used in Canada for infrastructure projects.
  • Seeking to make an impact on the outcome of projects from their first concept through design, procurement and construction.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 6 to 10 years of good quality estimating experience.
  • Estimating experience from civil infrastructure/transportation/highway projects in British Columbia or Canada.
  • Experience within construction contracting on projects of between $20m-$200m + in value.
  • Senior Estimators with Cost Consulting/PQS estimating experience are also of interest.
  • Experience of advising clients on budgets and managing cost control systems at a strategic level.
  • Experience of working in Canada on civil engineering infrastructure, major building or rail/transit projects is preferred.
  • Commercial management experience would be beneficial.
  • Client interface experience at a managerial level is important.
  • Experience of working in a team environment with confidence to self-manage and lead others.
  • Understanding of identifying, managing and evaluating project risks is essential.
  • Hands-on experience of using construction sector pricing software is desirable.
  • Demonstrable passion for excellence in Estimating is needed.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A professional qualification in construction is highly desirable.
  • Canadian Citizenship or the current right to work in Canada is desired.
  • Current/recent experience of undertaking Estimating work at this level in the Vancouver/British Columbia construction industry is highly desirable.
