Duties
As part of CanmetMATERIALS’ Corrosion Technical Team in Hamilton, ON, the Research Technologist works closely with research scientists, engineers and technologists to set-up and conduct a wide range of laboratory experiments to simulate or explore the behaviour of materials in a variety of service environments (for example, salt solutions, acids, oils, and high temperature and / or high pressure gases). Current research areas include materials for clean energy production (hydrogen, bioenergy and nuclear power), critical mineral processing and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).
The Research Technologist will perform a variety of tasks, including preparing test specimens, maintaining and calibrating scientific equipment, and assembling and operating equipment and apparatus that ranges in complexity from water baths to gas analyzers to autoclaves operating at high temperature and pressure. The Research Technologist is responsible for collecting, processing and ensuring the quality of the scientific data produced in their experimental work, all while observing the highest standards of occupational health and safety.
The Research Technologist position requires the incumbent to work onsite at the Hamilton laboratory full-time.
