At McElhanney, we work in teams to build strong connections with our staff, clients, and local communities. Our employees enjoy working here because of our varied projects, high levels of autonomy, opportunities for career development, excellent total compensation and benefits package, and collaborating with a team of great professionals.

The Opportunity

McElhanney, recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, is actively seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Survey Technologist in Terrace, Kitimat, or Prince Rupert at a junior to intermediate level.
If you’re located outside these areas but ready to embrace a new chapter, we invite you to apply and become part of our exceptional team.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on surveying experience with a multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of Land Surveyors and Survey Technologists as well as Civil Engineers and Environmental Professionals on a variety of legal, topographic, engineering, and construction projects. Depending on your experience and career goals, this can be primarily a field-based position or, alternatively, a position that combines both office and field survey work. You will provide field survey services using conventional survey methods but may also work with Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS, a.k.a. drones), LiDAR (statics and mobile, terrestrial, and aerial), bathymetric systems, and more.

This role is designated as a safety-sensitive position, and completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol testing is required.

Living in Northern B.C (Terrace, Kitimat, or Prince Rupert)

Northern B.C. offers a unique living experience with small, close-knit communities surrounded by stunning natural landscapes. Terrace, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert are nestled between the rugged Coast Mountains on the Pacific coastline, providing exceptional backcountry skiing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and camping opportunities. The area boasts breathtaking mountain views with world-class trails and access to pristine wilderness. These communities provide affordable living, a slower pace of life, and a strong focus on family, nature, and community, making them ideal for outdoor enthusiasts year-round.

Salary Range: $58,000-$88,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Work as part of a Field Crew, preparing accurate notes, sketches, and field data.
  • Conduct conventional and GPS field surveys.
  • Interpret Architectural and Engineering drawings for layout and as-built survey purposes.

What You’ll Bring

  • Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics with up to one year of previous experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with RPAS systems including basic and advanced pilot license is a strong asset.
  • Physically fit, able to lift heavy equipment, work in various environmental conditions with varied terrain, work in wildlife populated areas, and work in remote areas for extended periods and varied hours.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work independently to complete tasks and meet deadlines.

What Can We Offer You?

  • Competitive salary and participation in our generous Performance Bonus Plan.
  • Work with industry-leading professionals.
  • Receive support, guidance, and mentorship to achieve your career goals.
  • Work with cutting-edge geospatial technologies and equipment.

  • Maternity and parental leave top-up.
  • Great benefits, including extended health and dental coverage, healthcare spending account, and RRSP matching.
  • Employee and Family assistance program, which offers 24/7 support for all employees and their families either online or over the phone.
