Job summary

Resorts of the Canadian Rockies at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, BC, seeks an experienced lead cook to take charge in the absence of the Executive Chef. You will guide the line, ensure quality plating, and maintain high food-safety standards in a busy dining operation.

The role requires a minimum of 3 years in a professional kitchen, strong leadership, a culinary background or diploma, and the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Weekend/evening shifts and a passion for food are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a food preparation role within a professional dining establishment.
  • Strong leadership skills, consistently ensuring food and presentation standards are maintained.
  • A genuine love of, and passion for, food and cooking.
  • The physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs., perform manual labor, and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Food Safe or other food handling certification (an asset).
  • A culinary background, education, or diploma (an asset).

Responsibilities

  • Act as the leader in the absence of the Executive Chef, calling the line and communicating with Front of House staff.
  • Assess any needs for preparation work or supplies prior to service.
  • Ensure food is received, stored, handled and prepared in a hygienic and Food Safe compliant manner.
  • Prepare, cook, and plate food to established quality and presentation standards.
  • Participate and/or lead team meetings, and season start and end procedures.
  • Assist with supervising and training kitchen staff.
  • Assist with inventory and menu development as needed.
  • Maintain effective communication through restaurant and with teammates.
  • Ensure all cooks maintain a clean and safe workspace at all times.
  • Plan and develop catering events, wine dinners, and other special functions.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
