Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse provides care to complex but stable residents/clients. Responsibilities include performing assessments, planning and providing personal care, and executing nursing procedures. The Licensed Practical Nurse operates within the competency guidelines and full scope of practice defined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, as well as agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
• MHSU positions require additional education as outlined by BCCNM for practice involving primary diagnosis of Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.

Skills and Abilities

• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
• Ability to deal effectively with others.
• Organizational skills to plan and implement care.
• Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice as required by BC College of Nurses and Midwives, including medication administration.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
