Position Summary
The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the overall health, safety, and success of the project. The PM envisions how the project will be created, implemented, and managed to ensure successful completion. They lead with a positive approach, influencing the project's direction through words and actions.
Job Description
- Create and select a project team, understanding each member’s strengths and weaknesses to ensure effective and efficient collaboration.
- Coordinate with the HSE officer to develop the project-specific safety site plan.
- Develop and maintain the project schedule, choosing the best approach (e.g., Long CPM or simple Bar Chart) based on client and project needs. Define project goals, objectives, risks, staffing, roles, work breakdown structure, milestones, and deliverables.
- Set goals and timelines for project awards, ensuring they are realistic and achievable.
- Oversee the submission of Article “E” and delegate tasks to team members for shop drawings and deliverables.
- Manage the CRX log and system to verify changed orders and obtain client signatures.
- Maintain RFI logs and systems.
- Keep equipment control logs, operations and maintenance manuals, schedules, spare parts lists, and salvaged equipment lists up to date.
- Handle owner communications, training plans, schedules, and sign-off documentation.
- Implement a quality control program tailored to the project’s requirements.
- Develop and oversee the project cost control program, including reviewing estimates, improving margins, forecasting, and tracking costs bi-weekly and monthly.
- Manage project close-out processes, including substantial and total completion, warranty systems, and lessons learned documentation.
- Recommend scope changes by anticipating problems and exploring alternatives to increase success and profitability.
- Monitor and guide work programs for team members, ensuring responsibilities are fulfilled and work is checked for quality and accuracy.
- Maintain the CPM schedule’s accuracy throughout the project.
- Foster good relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, workers, and unions, setting high standards for productivity and quality.
- Supervise third-party workers, consultants, and contractors, monitoring efforts and billing.
Requirements
- Construction-related degree/diploma with approximately 10 years of experience or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
- Experience with Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant projects is an asset.
- Proven project management experience.
- Experience with facility commissioning/automation and project closeout is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, planning, cost control, and engineering drawings.
- Project management certification is an asset.
- Successful track record in project delivery and management methods.
- Strong organizational skills for managing cross-departmental resources.
- Excellent negotiation, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills.
- Effective communication skills with diverse staff, including technical and professional personnel and upper management.
- Strong financial management and internal control knowledge.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
