Nature of Work
Managing the Factory Inspection (FI) program, including field audit duties performed by Factory Inspection staff and contractors. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining training programs and monitoring the competencies of factory inspectors, which may require limited travel to domestic sites by car and air to visit manufacturing and installation sites. This role involves direct contact with clients and their staff, addressing technical inquiries and providing customer service.
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Managing Director and collaborates directly with Operations and Quality Assurance teams.

- Manage and coordinate the Factory Inspection program and related activities.
- Perform and oversee Field/Factory Witness Audits as per accreditation standards.
- Conduct random audits and review FI Reports.
- Review and approve initial Factory Inspections.
- Develop and deliver training for FI staff, including qualifying new inspectors and requalifying existing inspectors, and update the competency matrix.
- Participate in external and internal audits related to the Factory Inspection Program and conduct audits as needed.
- Assist the follow-up services coordinator with customer proposals and follow-up on issued quotes.
- Support customer service and accounting in invoicing and ensure timely payments.
- Ensure all inspections are scheduled and completed according to accreditation standards.
- Review the inspection program budget to ensure adequate resources are allocated geographically and financially.
- Review and approve expense accounts and overtime requisitions for inspection staff.
- Maintain communication with Field Inspection staff, resolve technical issues, and coordinate with support teams.
- Coordinate activities with external QPS contractors.
- Provide ongoing training for inspectors.
- Interface with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) on technical matters related to labeled equipment.
- Coordinate with clients, inspectors, and operations to resolve variances.
- Make final decisions on inspection frequency and cancellation requests based on manufacturer schedules and previous results.
- Investigate complaints related to misuse of the mark or inspection issues.
- Decide on the use of non-ISO/IEC 17025 calibrated test equipment following procedures.
- Review and decide on stop marking/shipping requests and cancellation notices.
- Approve remote factory inspection requests.
- Serve as a resource for the factory inspections department.
Required Qualifications:
- Must hold one of the following qualifications: Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist (CET); Applied Science Technician/Technologist (AScT); Professional Engineer (P.Eng); Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP); Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC); or a fully Certified Electrician.
- Minimum of 5 years of direct product testing and evaluation to electrical safety standards.
- Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 17065 and ISO/IEC 17020 processes related to certification and inspections.
- Regulatory knowledge of North American electrical construction and installation codes (CEC/NEC).
