Job description

is looking for a Business Development Manager who will play a pivotal role in identifying growth opportunities, securing projects, and fostering positive relationships with key stakeholders including indigenous communities.

In this role, you will be a valued member of Dawson Civil, working in a permanent, full-time position of Business Development Manager, reporting to the Manager of Civil. Your base location will be Kamloops, BC, and will require travel throughout our great province.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive business development opportunity strategy that integrates with the overall strategic plan across Dawson.
  • Explores opportunities for local businesses to participate in projects as suppliers, subcontractors, or partners. Ensures fair procurement practices that support economic development.
  • Conducts thorough market research to identify potential opportunities with road construction and maintenance projects.
  • Stays informed about local and regional infrastructure development plans and funding opportunities.
  • Collaborates with experts to conduct comprehensive assessments of potential project impacts on stakeholder communities.
  • Implements sustainable practices in road construction and maintenance to minimize ecological impacts on the environment.
  • Ensures that the company's commitment to indigenous relations is reflected in all activities.
  • Demonstrates a long-term commitment to stakeholder relations throughout the project lifecycle. Maintains ongoing consultation and collaboration to address evolving needs.
  • Maintains transparency in all interactions with stakeholders. Provides regular reports on project progress, including updates on environmental and social performance.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and agreements related to indigenous rights and land use. This may include negotiating impact benefit agreements (IBAs) when appropriate.
  • Actively engages with indigenous leaders, elders, and community members to build trust and establish open lines of communication. Attends community meetings, participates in consultation processes, and addresses concerns.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Business Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Proven experience in civil construction management, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in business development within the construction or infrastructure industry, with a focus on road construction and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of indigenous relations and principles of engagement.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and cross-cultural skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and contract administration.
  • Familiarity with GIS for mapping and analysis in indigenous territories.
  • Experience with sustainable and environmentally friendly road construction practices.
  • Knowledge of federal grant and funding programs for infrastructure projects with indigenous involvement.
  • Understands and respects the principle of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) when working with indigenous communities.
