Position Summary :

Reporting to the Manager of Data Operations, this role is responsible for leading the data engineering efforts that power TSSA’s company-wide data storage, processing, and reporting solutions. In this role you will work with a variety of tools to develop, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines, data warehouse, and data lakes. You'll collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and help them access and analyze data efficiently. You'll also mentor a team of data engineers and BI developers, provide technical guidance and best practices, and ensure that our data platform is reliable, scalable, and secure.

This role is critical to enhancing the use of data and analytics across the organization, driving strategic decision-making at all levels.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Oversee TSSA’s data management and reporting architecture (TSSA Analytics Platform), ensure it is regularly reviewed to meet current and future needs
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL / ELT processes to support data integration.
  • Develop and implement data warehouses and data lakes on Azure to store and manage TSSA transactional and historical / legacy data.
  • Perform various data manipulations such as data profiling, data standardization / validation / cleansing, root cause analysis / remediation, metadata management, reference, and master data management.
  • Implement data security and privacy measures as per guidelines provided by TSSA and industry best practices.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on data management and reporting, providing guidance and support to others as needed
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of data engineers and BI developers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data solutions with business objectives, ensuring high quality data products and services.

Job Qualifications :

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds
  • Strong experience in data engineering and software development, with expertise in at least one programming language
  • Experience with data warehousing and data modeling techniques
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across different teams and functions
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data problems and design effective solutions
  • Ability to support the team in establishing project plans and milestone goals and monitor them to completion

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Leadership & Team Management – Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse technical team.
  • Expert SQL Skills – Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL, with the ability to optimize complex queries and database performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Azure Expertise – Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, and other cloud-based data solutions.
  • Data Engineering & Software Development – Strong programming skills in at least one language (e.g., Python, R, Java, or C#) beyond SQL.
  • Data Warehousing & Modeling – Extensive experience in data architecture, data modeling, and data warehouse design.
  • Problem-Solving & Innovation – Ability to analyze complex data challenges and develop scalable, efficient solutions.
  • Communication & Collaboration – Strong ability to summarize issues and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and work cross-functionally.
  • Project Management – Ability to define project goals, establish milestones, and ensure timely delivery of initiatives.

Functional Competencies and Educational Requirements :

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering or software development, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure data solutions
  • Advanced expertise in architecture design and logical and conceptual data modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL in Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL environments.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI and Excel.
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft DevOps, Epicor Financial Management, FinancialForce Human Capability Management, and SharePoint is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in R and / or Python is an asset
  • Familiarity with data security and compliance measures is an asset
