Senior Mechanical Designer - Calgary

Partner Staffing, on behalf of our client, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Designer in Calgary. This role is ideal for a technically strong designer who excels in delivering innovative, sustainable, and code-compliant mechanical building systems. You will be responsible for the mechanical design and coordination of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, education, government, and recreational building projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead mechanical design efforts from concept through construction for building projects in various sectors.
2. Prepare detailed design documents including HVAC layouts, ductwork, piping, schematics, and schedules using AutoCAD and Revit.
3. Collaborate closely with architects, structural and electrical teams, and clients to ensure integrated and coordinated designs.
4. Perform mechanical calculations such as heating/cooling loads, ventilation rates, and pressure drops.
5. Conduct site reviews, support construction administration, and review shop drawings and RFIs.
6. Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NBC, NFPA), and municipal requirements.
7. Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance as needed.

Qualifications:

1. Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field.
2. 7+ years of mechanical design experience in the building sector, with at least 5 years in a senior/lead capacity.
3. Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with mechanical simulation tools (e.g., HAP, TRACE) is a strong asset.
4. Solid understanding of local building codes and standards.
5. Effective communicator and team player with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
6. Experience with sustainability and energy-efficient design (LEED, Net Zero, etc.) is an asset.
