Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work setting: Relocation costs covered by employer. Veterinary clinic. Animal hospital. Willing to relocate. Tasks: Collect samples and perform other laboratory tests. Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery. Produce diagnostic radiographs. Assist veterinarian before, during and after surgery. Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian. Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian. Counsel clients on animal health care. Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry. Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals. Diagnose diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animals, herds and flocks through physical examinations or laboratory tests. Advise clients on feeding, housing, behaviour, breeding, hygiene and general care of animals. Provide a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry and euthanasia. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses: Registration by a provincial or territorial, or regional association as Registered Animal Health Technologist, Registered Veterinary Technician.
