Job summary

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Casual Driver (Material Handler) to join our Logistics team in BC-Kelowna. The role involves transporting donors, equipment and blood products, and assisting mobile donor events while ensuring safety and proper temperature control.

You will perform pre-trip inspections, complete documentation, assist with donor bookings, and help set up Wi‑Fi and systems for events. Strong English communication and a willingness to learn in a regulatory environment are

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid BC Class 4 unrestricted drivers license with a clean abstract.
  • Minimum 24 months of professional driving experience in the last 3 years.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and able to learn new systems.
  • English communication; a second language is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist at mobile donor events and help set up booths, tables, and equipment.
  • Transport people, donors, and supplies following safety procedures and proper temperature control.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections and complete required documentation accurately.
  • Greet donors and assist with booking or rebooking appointments as needed.
  • Set up systems and Wi‑Fi for mobile events and learn new programs as required.
  • Load and unload equipment and supplies at donor centers and return to the center.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Casual Driver (Material Handler) to join our dynamic Logistics team in BC-Kelowna.

The Logistics team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by utilizing best practices to ensure the safe transportation of personnel, donors, equipment, blood products and supplies. Our Drivers do more than drive. In this role, you will assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure mobile donor events are ready for use in addition to transporting people and products integral to Canada’s Lifeline.

  • Utilizing your experience with driving and transportation you will ensure that blood and blood products are transported in accordance with safety measures and procedures and are kept at an appropriate temperature. You will also ensure the safety of employees, donors and/or volunteers travelling with you.
  • Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation procedures and your attention to detail, you will conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working order, and accurately complete all required documentation.
  • Leveraging your customer service skills, you will assist the collections team by greeting and helping donors book or rebook appointments as required.
  • You will assist with setting up systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events by utilizing your familiarity with technology and aptitude for learning new programs.
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will work with staff to carry and set up/dismantle equipment and supplies. You will also load and unload equipment and supplies at donor centre sites and upon return to centre.
Desired education and skills
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid British Columbia, class 4 unrestricted drivers license and a clean commercial drivers abstract from within the last 30 days.
  • Minimum 24 months verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver, within the last 3 years.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
  • A willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. A second language is considered an asset.

What you can expect
  • Shifts/hours - must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs; length of shifts varies according to the event which takes place at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, overnights and statutory holidays.
  • Current schedule, shifts range from 4-10 hours, overtime may be required. Monday to Sunday. Start times could be any time between: 06:30-1745hrs. End times could be any time between: 1530 - 0330hrs.Rest days: Sunday/Monday or Monday/Tuesday or Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday or Thursday/Friday or Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday. Overnights may be required during shift coverage as elected by the employee.
  • Travel will be required to attend mobile events. Travel will be required to Salmon Arm, Kamloops, Penticton, Vernon, West Kelowna.
  • Physical capability to load, unload, push and carry heavy clinic equipment and supplies. This will include stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs.), pulling, and pushing up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) on a wheeled platform.
