Job summary

Canadian Blood Services in British Columbia is seeking a Temporary full-time Phlebotomist (Donor Centre Associate) for the BC-North Surrey Donor Centre. You will perform phlebotomy, interact face-to-face with donors, and ensure safe handling of blood products while maintaining donor privacy.

Role requires a phlebotomy training or equivalent experience, strong customer service and communication skills, and flexibility for mobile-event shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education is asset.
  • Completion of accredited phlebotomy program or 1-year related experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience with the public in a high customer-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of current GMP and basic computer skills (Word/Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Register and screen donors to determine eligibility and promote a positive donor experience.
  • Perform venipuncture according to standards and provide post-donation care.
  • Maintain accurate product information in the computer system and label products correctly.
  • Assist in setting up donor clinics at mobile events and ensure proper setup.
  • Travel to mobile events and work shifts based on operational needs; maintain donor privacy.

About The Role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Phlebotomist (Donor Centre Associate) to join our dynamic Collections mobiles team in our BC-North Surrey Donor Centre.

The Collections team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting donor blood, and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every day. In this role, you will perform phlebotomy in the collection process in accordance with health and safety standards. You will work face-to-face with our donors, team members, and volunteers providing them with safe and quality service during each stage of the collection process

Formula for success
  • Leveraging your superb client service skills and ability to communicate effectively with donors and your team, you will conduct registration and confidential screening to determine eligibility and build and promote a positive donor experience.
  • Your knowledge or experience in following procedures you will ensure safe processing and handling of blood products as well as respecting donor privacy
  • You will apply your experience and training in phlebotomy to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
  • Your excellent attention to detail will be utilized in ensuring accuracy of product information in our computer system, when completing the product labelling process, and when preparing products.
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing your knowledge and supporting best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
  • At mobile events within our communities, you will assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.
Desired Education And Skills
  • A high school diploma is required, and post-secondary education is considered an asset.
  • Completion of accredited training program in phlebotomy or one-year related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with current Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs. Previous knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook are considered assets.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions.

What You Can Expect
  • Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs; length of shifts varies according to the event which takes place at Canadian Blood Services mobile donor centers.
  • This line works North Surrey Mobiles. Work days alternate, including stat holidays. 0915-1715, 0945-1745, 1000-1715, 1045-1845, 1145-1945, 1230-1930, 1245-2000, 1245-2045, 1245-1915. Rest days: Sunday and Monday.
  • Travel will be required for mobile events in our communities, and transportation will be provided by Canadian Blood Services.
  • Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift supplies and equipment in excess of 10 kg (22 lbs.).
