Job summary

The Yale Saloon in Vancouver’s entertainment district is seeking a confident Door Host to manage the guest list, handle cover charges, and support the security team to maintain a safe, high-energy front entrance.

You are outgoing, able to read the room, and stay calm under pressure; Thursdays through Sundays and holidays require availability. Hospitality experience and Serving It Right certification are preferred. Boots-and-country vibes lovers encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in hospitality, nightlife, or guest-facing roles preferred.
• Serving It Right certification required or preferred.
• Ability to stand for long periods and work outdoors/in all weather.
• Excellent communication and guest-service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Manage guest list and cover charges at the door.
• Assist with ID checks as needed and monitor entry flow.
• Support security in maintaining a safe, positive environment at the front of house.
• De-escalate situations calmly and professionally when needed.

The Yale Saloon is Vancouver’s home for all things Country! Located in Vancouver’s entertainment district on Granville Ave, the Yale Saloon presents the complete country experience. You can expect Southern hospitality, line dancing lessons, mechanical bull riding and boot stompin’ parties.

Who You Are:

You are the first impression of The Yale Saloon - the one who sets the tone before guests even step inside. As our Door Host, you’ll manage the guest list, handle cover, and keep the line moving, all while supporting the security team to ensure a safe and positive environment.

You’re outgoing, confident, and great with people, with a natural feel for reading the room and setting the tone at the door. You stay cool under pressure and make quick, smart calls when it counts. You take ownership of your space (the door is your zone!) - and you run it with confidence and control.

What You’ll Work On:

First Impressions & Vibe Setting

• Welcome every guest with energy and authenticity - you're the face of the Yale at the door.
• Create a fun, inclusive, and exciting first experience for everyone arriving.
• Hype up the night and get guests excited before they even walk in.

Guest List & Entry Management

• Manage guest lists, cover charges, and line flow efficiently.
• Assist with ID checks as needed.
• Monitor capacity and help maintain smooth entry throughout the night.

Safety & Awareness

• Maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment at the front of house.
• Identify and appropriately handle intoxicated or disruptive guests.
• Support the security team with communication and incident awareness.
• De-escalate situations calmly and professionally when needed.

Qualifications & Experience

• Previous experience in hospitality, nightlife, or guest-facing roles
• Love country lifestyle (boots and hat strongly encouraged!)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to stand for long periods and work in all weather conditions
• Availability Thursday–Sunday evenings and holidays
• Serving It Right certification

Preferred (but not required):

• Valid Security Worker Licence (British Columbia)
• Experience with ID checks and venue entry management

Please note compensation for this role is dependant upon certifications and experience.
