St. Michael's Centre in Burnaby, BC seeks an experienced Human Resources Manager for a permanent full-time role within our Hospice and Complex Care Units team. The position is located on-site at St. Michael’s Centre and reports to the CEO.

The HR Manager will support culture, leadership, and employee relations, guiding investigations, policy development, and recruitment while coordinating with unions to maintain wellness and constructive relations.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.
  • CHRP designation preferred.
  • 3–5 years of HR experience in a unionized healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on interpretation and administration of the collective agreement.
  • Support managers to address investigations related to performance and practice issues, incivility, and inappropriate conduct.
  • Conduct and/or attend investigation meetings and offer recommendations to the management team on the appropriate requirements for dispute resolution and progressive discipline.
  • Work collaboratively to oversee the hiring, recruitment, and onboarding processes.
  • Prepare offer letters and determine wage rates, oversee the creation of new employee records, ensure the maintenance and security of employee personnel files.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures related to HR and other relevant legislative matters (e.g. WSBC, Employment Standards, Human Rights Code).
  • Analyze injury trends and make recommendations to reduce potential injury situations, and support employees' timely return to work
  • Analyze absenteeism and recommend measures for reduction
  • Administer the Human Resources Information Systems (ComVida) to ensure relevant gathering of information and the production of required reports
  • Utilize ComVida software for tracking and managing employee information, scheduling, and other HR related functions
  • Support the management team in the performance, evaluation, and attendance management systems
  • Liaise with unions to maintain strong relations with a focus on employee wellness
  • Provide consultation and advice on operational issues, including performance management, discipline, leave management, selection, organizational redesign, and employee relations
  • Provide guidance on interpretation and administration of various collective agreements and policies
  • Investigate labour relations issues and research jurisprudence and industry practices
  • Develop and implement contract interpretations, policies, procedures, and programs to improve labour relations practices
  • Promote constructive union-management relations through respectful communication and problem-solving
  • Maintain personnel files and grievance tracking databases; report labour relations statistics

Detailed Overview

Reporting to the CEO, the Human Resources Manager will form part of the Leadership Team. This role brings expertise to support the team and strategic goals and objectives of the organization. Experience with shaping and strengthening culture is an important part of this role.

  • promote constructive union-management relations through respectful communication and interest-based problem-solving
  • maintain personnel files up-to-date, including records such as grievance tracking database and statistics on labour relations activities
  • review and analyze data and report concerns and recommendations
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Bachelor?s degree in Human Resources
  • Certified HR Professional (CHRP) designation preferred
  • 3-5 years of recent, related HR experience in a unionized healthcare environment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, including experience in a healthcare unionized setting (preferred)
