Job summary

Century Transportation in Port Hope is seeking a full-time Dispatcher to schedule and coordinate up to 60 drivers and manage driver and vehicle assignments for consistent daily service. The role runs Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm with a one-hour lunch and on-call every other week.

You will ensure routes are covered efficiently, support the charter department when needed, and respond to inquiries while maintaining confidentiality and diplomacy.

Qualifications

• Experience in the school bus industry is an asset.
• Good knowledge of Whitby and surrounding area.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally while exhibiting confidentiality and diplomacy.
• Ability to handle stressful situations in a composed manner.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Job description

Century Transportation is currently seeking a full-time Dispatcher to join our team in Port Hope. This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday from 6:00 am - 3:00 pm, with a one-hour lunch, and an on-call requirement every other week. The Dispatcher is responsible for scheduling and coordinating up to 60 drivers and managing both driver and vehicle assignments to deliver consistent and efficient daily service.

Wage: $22.92 per hour

Qualifications:

• Experience in the school bus industry an asset
• Good knowledge of Whitby and surrounding area
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally while exhibiting confidentiality and diplomacy
• Ability to handle stressful situations in a composed manner
• Expertise in organizational planning and problem solving
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure that drivers and staff are treated in a fair and consistent manner using the guidelines and rules set down in the Driver’s Handbook and Policy and Procedures manual
• Ensure school routes are covered in an efficient and fair manner
• Help charter department fill charters as needed
• Assist in answering public and driver inquiries and finding solutions to concerns
• Ensure all required paperwork/requests is completed in an accurate and timely manner
• Create/improve existing Operations systems
• Keep appropriate staff informed of any major issues, changes, concerns etc. in an expedient fashion
• General office duties as required
