Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a Dispatcher for our Pickering, ON location. This role focuses on creating daily schedules and coordinating with Operations to meet client service needs. You will dispatch calls to routes, perform driver check-ins, and ensure paperwork is complete.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years in transportation or dispatch, strong communication, proficiency with MS Office, and the ability to work extended hours. TRUX experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school completion; post-secondary education is an asset.
• 1–2 years in transportation, dispatch, or customer service.
• Proficient with MS Outlook, Excel, Word; TRUX knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

• Schedule service and meet client needs; ensure policy alignment.
• Dispatch calls to routes based on route and driver location.
• Perform driver check-ins to ensure paperwork accuracy.
• Coordinate with departments to resolve service issues.
• Handle additional duties as assigned by Logistics Manager.
• Interact with customers, sales and operations staff.
• Work with routing specialists to optimize routes.
• Field calls and emails from customer service and sales.
• Troubleshoot and resolve delivery/pickup issues preemptively.
• Determine daily driver staffing for optimal responsiveness.
• Record driver information and share with relevant departments.
• Communicate with transportation personnel.
• Communicate effectively via email and telephone.

Job description

GFL Environmental is looking for a Dispatcher for our Pickering, ON location. This position is responsible for the creation of daily schedules and works closely with Operations to meet client service needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Schedule service and satisfy customer needs for service changes. Ensure that service is completed in accordance with established policies.
• Dispatch calls to routes based upon designated route and driver location.
• Perform driver check-ins at day’s end to ensure complete and accurate paperwork completion.
• Ensure coordination with other departments, clarifying roles and responsibilities for resolving service issues.
• May perform some additional responsibilities as assigned by the Logistics Manager.
• Interacts with customers, customer service department, sales, & Operations staff reporting to Logistics Manager.
• Works with routing specialists to optimize routes.
• Fields incoming calls / emails from customer service and sales.
• Troubleshoots and resolves potential delivery and pickup problems before they result in service issues.
• Assists in determining daily level of driver staffing to provide best mix of responsiveness and productivity.
• Records and document information from drivers and distributes to appropriate departments.
• Communicates with transportation personnel.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally via email & telephone.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

• Completion of high school. Post‑secondary courses or diploma would be considered an asset.
• Schedule: Start time can vary, must be able to work between 6:30am earliest and 6:30pm latest.
• 1‑2 years in a transportation, dispatch or customer service role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong customer focus.
• Proven ability to multi‑task & ability to prioritize tasks.
• Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word.
• Knowledge of industry an asset.
• Advanced skill level with software applications and word processing accuracy including adequate typing speed.
• Required to work extended hours including occasional weekends.
• Possess TRUX experience but not mandatory, if not possess desire and ability to learn TRUX system, needs to possess advanced computer skills.
• Additional or specialized training in transportation, logistics, or similar area of study; customer service experience in a call center environment.
