Job summary

Elliott Coach Lines is looking for a full-time AM Dispatcher in Elmira, Ontario. You will coordinate real-time routing for school buses, communicating with drivers, school district personnel and parents to ensure on-time service for daily routes and activities.

Shift hours are 6:15 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday, with a pay rate of $23.00 per hour. The role requires strong customer service and the ability to work under pressure, including on-call duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience in high-volume dispatch or similar role.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of local road networks and driving conditions.
  • Willing to cover on-call duties after training.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee routing and scheduling of school buses and drivers.
  • Assign vehicles and ensure equipment availability.
  • Act as front line for driver issues and inquiries.
  • Escalate incidents to proper authority.
  • Communicate with parents, schools and district staff.
  • Support driver safety meetings and training.
  • Adhere to company policies and provincial regulations.
  • Answer phones and two-way radios professionally.
  • Cover routes on an as-needed basis.

Job description

Elliott Coach Lines is looking for a full-time AM Dispatcher for our Elmira location. A School Bus Dispatcher is responsible for real-time communication with drivers, school district personnel and parents for daily routes, trips and extra-curricular activities of students for our clients. This important roles tracks equipment, monitors drivers and problem solves throughout the day, ensuring on time service and delivery.

The shift for this position is Monday through Friday from 6:15 am to 3:15 pm.

Rate of Pay

$23.00 per hour

Job Duties
  • Oversee the routing and scheduling of school buses and drivers.
  • Assign vehicles and ensure a proper distribution of equipment is available.
  • Act as front line support for drivers with issues related to routes, vehicles, customer service inquiries and complaints.
  • Escalate incidents to the proper authority.
  • Follow company policies regarding pupil/client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, and the public in general.
  • Assist manager in ensuring all drivers complete all necessary job-related training and planning driver safety meetings.
  • Responsible for carrying out all Company policies and applicable provincial regulations.
  • Answering phones and two-way company radios in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Communicating with stakeholders regarding calendars, complaints, bus incidents.
  • Communicating with parents regarding issues and concerns.
  • All other various and miscellaneous duties as assigned by Management.
  • Will be required to cover School Bus routes on an as needed basis.
Qualifications
  • Great customer service and communication skills.
  • Be polite, and able to balance the needs of drivers, customers, and the office in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Ability to work well under stress.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume Dispatch setting or similar volume-based role.
  • Have an excellent knowledge of the Waterloo Region road network and surrounding areas.
  • Possess or willing to obtain a valid Class-B license (free license upgrade offered for STC).
  • Willing to share on call responsibilities (after training period).
  • Must be capable of learning to communicate effectively with a 2-way radio.
