Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Director, Personal & Business Banking Controller to lead the controllership function for a major Toronto financial institution. The role covers Cards, Mortgages, Personal Lending, and loan loss provisions, with responsibility for close, reporting, and controls.

You will manage a team of 17 accounting professionals across onshore and offshore delivery, guiding governance, audit responses, and continued automation of finance processes to strengthen financial reporting

Qualifications

• CPA designation or equivalent required.
• 8+ years of accounting or controllership experience in a large financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting governance.
• Experience leading month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Experience overseeing financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial statement deliverables.
• Experience managing audit requests, control deficiencies, remediation plans, and interactions with internal and external auditors – Big 4 experience (or mid-size firm).
• Alteryx experience.
• Financial software (e.g., SAP S/4 Hana, Oracle, Power BI, Microsoft Suite).

This individual will lead the controllership function supporting Personal and Business Banking, including Cards, Mortgages, Personal Lending, and loan loss provision activities. The Director will oversee a team of 17 accounting professionals across onshore and offshore delivery, with responsibility for accurate and timely month-end close, daily settlements, financial reporting, reconciliations, accounting governance, and internal controls. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to senior Finance and business stakeholders, providing accounting guidance, investigative analysis, and decision support for strategic initiatives and complex financial matters. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining financial reporting integrity, strengthening process controls, managing audit requirements, and driving automation, standardization, and continuous improvement across Finance operations. They will also provide leadership, coaching, and development to the accounting team while managing priorities, escalations, succession planning, and knowledge risk
